(BEDFORD) – A Mitchell man was killed after his vehicle rolled on John Williams Boulevard on Saturday morning.
According to Bedford Police report, when officers arrived at the scene at 9:53 a.m. they found 79-year-old Larry Bridges trapped in his 1999 Chevrolet.
Bridges was freed from the wreckage by Bedford Fire Department firefighters and transported to IU Health Hospital by an IU Health Hospital crew. Bridges died at 11:20 a.m.
According to police, 18-year-old Ethan Williams was traveling east in the left lane of John Williams Boulevard and was about 600 feet from the intersection of John Williams Boulevard and Beech Street when he noticed a vehicle stopped at the stop sign on Beech Street facing North.
Williams said the driver appeared to be waiting for traffic to clear so he could cross the eastbound lanes of John Williams Boulevard. When Williams got close to the intersection, the vehicle pulled out in front of his 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Williams said it was impossible for him to avoid the collision.
Two witnesses confirmed Bridges pulled his vehicle into the path of Williams’ Jeep.
Williams suffered a contusion to his lower right arm and a minor laceration to his upper lip. He was treated at the scene by an AMR ambulance crew.
