Power Restored To Most In Central Indiana Amid Extreme Cold

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Crews have restored power to all but a few hundred of several thousand homes and businesses in central Indiana that lost power amid dangerously cold temperatures.

Duke Energy says about 200 of its customers remained without power Wednesday afternoon, mostly in Hamilton County, just north of Indianapolis.
About 5,000 of the utility’s customers lost power earlier in the day due to high power demand for heating that caused power line circuits to trip.
Indianapolis Power & Light reported that about 130 of its customers remained without power Wednesday afternoon, down from a peak of about 2,000 customers who had lost power.
The National Weather Service says the temperature fell to minus 11 degrees (negative 23 degrees Celsius) Wednesday in Indianapolis, tying the record low for the date set in 1966.
