I’m born and raised in Lawrence County and graduated from Bedford North Lawrence High School. My wife, Trisha, and I have a 1-year-old daughter, Harper. I have experience working in management in both manufacturing and state and local governments. I earned the following degrees:

  • Bachelors of Education from Indiana University, Bloomington
  • Masters of Human Resource Management from Keller Graduate School

I am running to create new policies, bring in industry with higher paying jobs, update infrastructure and be forthcoming to the taxpayers about needed change and ways to be more efficient and fiscally responsible.
I strongly feel that the time for change is now. I will ensure that the voice of the taxpayer is heard, and I will put in the necessary time and commitment to make Bedford, once again, a thriving community where its residents can prosper.
I believe my experience as the current Lawrence County Human Resources Director will prove to be invaluable to this endeavor. I am consistently formulating new policies, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, advising on budgetary decisions, implementing new technology, coordinating the county safety committee, and conducting a cost-saving analysis.
I am a member of the newly formed Lawrence County Workforce Coalition committees:
Justice Involved Task Force: focuses on decreasing the jail population and integration of individuals back into the workforce by providing work/soft skills training and job opportunities with local employers.
Worked Based Learning Task Force: focuses on increasing diverse education programs, skills training, internships, and job opportunities with local employers for county high school students
The Skillman name has long been involved in Lawrence County politics, and I intend to take what I have learned from my family as well as my experience as a public servant to do the absolute best for the citizens of Bedford.
I value the outpouring of support that I have received thus far. I look forward to this journey and the opportunity to make positive changes for the present and the future of our great city.
Sincerely,
Brian Skillman
