Restored Clabber Girl Sign Back In Place After Paint Job

(TERRE HAUTE) – A Clabber Girl baking powder billboard that’s been a western Indiana landmark since the 1930s is shining again following a restoration.

Crews installed the 80-year-old billboard’s freshly painted yellow and red panels Monday along U.S. 40 on Terre Haute’s east side.
The billboard still lacks trim work and its electric clock, but they’ll be re-installed soon following their own restoration work.
The Tribune-Star reports that artist Becky Hochhalter is supervising the billboard’s restoration. She wrote in an update on her Facebook pace that the iconic sign will “look exactly as it did before. These things just take time.”
The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Terre Haute-based Clabber Girl Corp. are collaborating on the restoration of the sign, which is believed to be Indiana’s oldest surviving billboard.
