Police Nab Murder Suspect Who Fled During Traffic Stop

(INDIANAPOLIS) — Indianapolis Police say they’ve captured a murder suspect who fled on foot during a traffic stop.

Police say 26-year-old Derrick Warner was found hiding in a house after the traffic stop Thursday morning on the city’s southeast side. He’s charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon in the shooting death of 42-year-old Richard Pettry on Jan. 12.
Police say that during the traffic stop, Warner jumped out of the passenger side of the car and fled. Officers learned afterward that Warner was wanted on a murder warrant.
Two schools were locked down during the ensuing search.
