Mildred Anne (Wade) Chastain, 87, of Mitchell, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2018, at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.
Born June 16, 1930, in northwestern Washington County, she was the daughter of Oscar Elmer and Mary Evaline (Phipps) Wade. She married Elmo Chastain December 25, 1950, in Campbellsburg with Elmo’s grandfather officiating. Elmo preceded her in death January 3, 2014.
She was educated in Washington County schools and graduated from Campbellsburg High School in 1949. Elmo and Mildred purchased a farm in southeastern Lawrence County in 1957 and remained there 56 years. The farming operation mainly involved raising corn, soybeans, hogs and cattle.
Mildred’s faith in Jesus Christ was evident throughout her teenage and adult years. She was a faithful member of the Fishing Creek Chapel congregation, attending over 60 years serving as secretary for many years and was a long time piano accompanist during services. Church members were truly an extended family as evidenced through the care, concern and visitations of Fishing Creek members that helped take her to services and meetings at church.
Survivors include her children, Michael (Anne) Chastain of Culver, Connie (Larry) Smith of Mitchell, Teresa Chastain of Mitchell, Darrin (Kim) Chastain of Mitchell; grandchildren, Ashley Chastain, Jordan (Ashley) Chastain, Amy (Nate) Hendershott, Ryan (Paloma) Chastain, Jacob (Katie) Smith; 6 great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and all siblings. Mildred was the youngest child and had four siblings die in their infancy with only one older sibling that lived a full life – Ruth Irene Wade, who passed in 2005.
]The service of worship celebrating Mildred’s life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10th, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Yancy Unger officiating. Burial will be in Freedom Cemetery off East State Road 60 near Carter’s Creek Christian Church. Visitation with family will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Ernest Howard Survance – Mitchell

Ernest Howard Survance, 71, of Mitchell, died at 6:33 pm on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born April 15, 1946, in Shoals, he was the son of Cleo and Bernice (Montgomery) Survance. He married Carol Hicks on May 14, 1966 and she survives. He worked at U.S. Gypsum and later retired from Carpenter Body Works. He was a member of Faith Mission Church. Howard enjoyed tractors and traveling and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren as well as mowing his lawn.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Mitchell; three sons, Daniel Survance and wife, Diane, of Mitchell, Jeffrey Survance of Bedford, and Matthew Howard Survance, of Mitchell; two grandsons, Cameron and Patrick Survance, both of Mitchell; three sisters, Louise Holloway and husband, Dale, of Pennsylvania, Hazel Furhman, of Shoals, and Doris Russell, of Mitchell; a brother, Roger Survance, of Kentucky; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, James Survance, sisters, Wilma Pride, Lois Brashear, and Wanda Albright.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 9th at the Faith Mission Church with Pastor Mark Stetler and Pastor Leonard Sankey officiating. A committal service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 9th at Spring Hill Cemetery in Shoals, IN. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 8th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Carole R. Baker – Bedford

Carole R. Baker, 85, of Bedford, died at 7:51 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Westview Nursing and Rehab. in Bedford.
Born December 16, 1932, she was the daughter of Floyd and Sarah Elizabeth (Wright) Flynn. She married Arthur Ishmael Baker in 1950 and he preceded her in death on June 13, 2003. She was co-owner of Midwest Metal Spinning and later a home care nurse. She was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include a son, Steve Baker and wife, Belynda, of Bedford; five grandchildren, Lance Baker, Landon Baker and wife, Tatum, Breanna Baker, Tyler Baker, Justin Baker and wife, Cami; great grandchildren, Braden Baker, Lila Baker, Emmy Baker, Brayden Patton, and Whitney Baker; a sister, Elma Louise Flynn Page, of Springville; a brother, Robert Dale Flynn, of Peru, IN; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Wayne Jeffrey Baker; four sisters, Rubia Irene Flynn, Madeline Flynn Thompson, Helen Gertrude Flynn Jones, and Betty Joanne Flynn Veatch; four brothers, Bennie Joseph Flynn, Harold William Flynn, George Edgar Flynn, and Darrell Eugene Flynn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 8th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Bob Phillips and Keith Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Lester E. Truelove – Shoals

Lester E. Truelove, 81, of Shoals passed away at his home on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at 6:58 p.m.
He was born on June 29, 1936 in Rutherford Township in Martin County to Woodrow and Catherine (Burress) Turelove. he married Dianne Gee on August 4, 1995 and she survives.
He graduated from Loogootee High School and retired from National Gypsum with 43 years of service.
He is survived by his wife Dianne; two daughters Joyce Elaine Druba and husband John, of Madison, Cathy Hall, of Sellersburg; two sons Thomas Allan Truelove, of Shoals, John David Truelove, of Loogootee; seven grandchildren, Justin Druba, Jay Druba, Jennifer Chase, Corban Truelove, Angel Lynn Wells, Jessica Truelove and Noah Truelove; Five great grandchildren, Brooks Druba, Alexis Druba, Chevelle Wells, Cyrus Wells, Coraline Wells; two brothers, Roger Truelove, of Loogootee, Terry Truelove, of Martinsville; two sisters Cheryl Alvers, of Evansville and Karen Sue Holman, of Loogootee.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Robert Earl Truelove and James Alexander Truelove; four brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Queen-Lee Chapel in Shoals with Pastor Marty Evans officiating. Burial will be in the Truelove Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until time of the service.
The Queen-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
