Ida Francis Voorhies, 95, of Burlington, IA, formerly of Bedford, died at 7:42 p.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015, in Burlington, IA.
Born April 18, 1920, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Harry and Della Ella Voorhies. She attended a one-room school on Coxton Road and graduated from Fayetteville High School. She had worked at Sarkes-Tarzian, Bloomington and had also worked as a nanny to both the Mayor and later the Governor. She was of the Protestant Faith.
Surviving are one daughter, Rebecca (Rollen) Giffin, Burlington, IA; granddaughter Ashley Marie Giffin, Pittsburgh, IL; great grandson, Kade Woodhall; one brother, William Earl Voorhies, Tullahoma, TN; step great grandchildren, Brittany and Ty Giffin, Coushatta, LA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Ruth Voorhies, Mary Padgett, Helen Baker, Susie Brobst, Richard “Bud” Voorhies, and Tirey “Todd” Voorhies; grandson Lance Tieg Giffin; nephews Donald Voorhies, Mike Keller, Bill Keller, Dean “Bo” Voorhies and Joel Voorhies.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2015, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Cemetery, Silverville. Friends may call on Friday from Noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
