Mary Plake – Bedford
Mary Plake, 95, of Bedford, died Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at the home of her daughter.
Arrangements are pending at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
Ken Barnes – Bedford
Ken Barnes, 62, of Bedford, died at 7:10 a.m. Monday, April 6, 2015, at his home.
Born August 19, 1952 in Augsburg, Germany, he was the son of Raymond and Heddy (Brehm) Barnes. He married Mary Albright on September 26, 1977 and she survives.
Ken was a graduate of the University of Masssachusetts; and a veteran of the U.S Air Force; he was president of W. F. Meyers, Bedford, for 30 years; a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Bedford; Knights of Columbus, Council #1166; American Legion, Gillen Post #33; and was very active at Bedford North Lawrence High School where he coached girls’ and boys’ soccer and conditioning. Ken was a personal trainer for Priority Fitness, Bedford; and was an avid runner having completed many marathons and mini-marathons. He was past-president of the Bedford Chamber of Commerce and he also held a pilot’s license.
Surviving are his father, Raymond Barnes, Hopkinsville, KY; wife, Mary Barnes, Bedford; one daughter, Sarah Dow Barnes, New Orleans, LA; one son, Alex George Barnes, Bloomington; one sister, Christa Nicklaus and her husband Erwin, of Hollenbach, Germany; one brother-in-law, Jack Reilly, Ipswich, MA; his nephew, Marcus Barnes-Reilly, also of Ipswich, MA; his nephew Thomas Nicklaus and his niece, Birgit Nicklaus Sindona, both of Hollenbach, Germany; and many extended family members in Massachusetts.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Heddy Barnes and one brother, Raymond Barnes.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2015, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Bedford, with Fr. Rick Eldred and Dcn. Dave Reising officiating. Friends may call on Thursday from 1 p.m till 8 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, Bedford.
in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be considered to the White River Humane Society or the Wounded Warrior Project.
