Jo Ellen (Alhorn) Lee – Mesa, AR
Jo Ellen (Alhorn) Lee, 54, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Bedford, beloved wife of Robert E. Lee, passed away on January 15th, 2014, in Mesa after a terrible five year battle with Glioblastoma multiforme (Brain Cancer) and dementia.
She retired from Cook Medical, after 13 years of service, due to her illness. Her accomplishments were many. Jo Ellen’s knowledge of all things related to dogs was amazing, her photography skills were tremendous, her ability to draw with pencil on canvas were magnificent, and her determination to always do her best in all of her applied vocations was inspirational.
Survivors include her husband, Robert of Mesa; mother Bernice Alhorn of Bedford; sisters, Bernadette (Larry) Dippel of Anderson, Rebecca (Charles) Bliss of Bedford, Rosemary (William) Clampitt of Bedford; and one brother Richard Alhorn of Bedford.
She was preceded in death by her father Marion Alhorn.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staffs of the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, and the Barrow Neurologic Institute in Phoenix. Special thanks to Eden Adult Care Facility in Mesa.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, with a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 2014, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Bedford, with Father Rick Eldred and Deacon Dave Reising officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be considered to Lawrence County Patient Services.

Shirley E. (Beaver) Haymaker – Bedford
Shirley E. (Beaver) Haymaker, 83, of Bedford, died at 10:17 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2014, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital, Bedford.
Born April 2, 1930 in Marion County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Lester L. Beaver and Edna F. Phillips Beaver. She married G. Ray Haymaker on August 2, 1963; and he preceded her in death on April 25, 1999. She was a graduate of Warren Central High School and a graduate of Indianapolis Business School-Northwood Institute. She was self-employed as a seamstress.
Surviving are three daughters, Joyce Green, Olympia, WA, Patricia Graves, Mitchell, IN, and Susan Harmon, Mitchell, IN; two sons, Daniel Livingston, Haysville, IN, Robert Haymaker, Mitchell, IN; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; two brothers, Lester Lee Beaver and Phil Beaver; and one sister Joan Sanders.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three step-sons; and two sisters.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at 1p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, with Sister Becky Ryan officiating. There will be a private burial at Green Hill Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Wendell E. Denney – Bedford
Wendell E. Denney age 83 of Bedford, passed away on Saturday January 18, 2014 at 10:22 a.m. at White River Lodge in Bedford. He was born on October 10, 1930 in Wayne County, Kentucky to Douglas E. and Jannie (Rigney) Denney. He married Wanda Lee (Howell) Denney in 1951 in Kentucky and she preceded him in death. Wendell was a truck driver for Sims Motor Transport, he loved NASCAR and Sprint Car racing, was an avid fan of Steve Kinser/
Surviving relatives are; two brothers; Earl (Pat) Denney of Kentucky and Ernest Lee (Geraldine) Denney of Kentucky; several nieces and nephews.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son Gary Denney; sister; Eileen Denney; brothers Phillip James “Jimmy” Denney, Kermit Denney and Hobart Denney.
Cremation was chosen. Graveside rites will be on Wednesday January 22, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Green Hill Cemetery.

Grovetta C. Tosti – Bedford
Grovetta C. Tosti, 93, of Bedford, died at 7:20 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2014, at Garden Villa, Bedford.
Born January 24, 1920, in Oolitic, IN, she was the daughter of Grover C. Anderson and Mabel (Thomas) Anderson. She married Joe Tosti, who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Oolitic High School with the class of 1937 and was a homemaker. She was an avid bowler and outdoors person and an excellent seamstress, cook and mother. She also loved her pets Dozer and Bear.
Surviving are two daughters, Peggy (Joe) True, Bedford and Dottie Tosti, Cheyenne, WY; her special grandson, Ben (Toni) Fortner, Mitchell; her special daughter-in-law, Becky True, Indianapolis; grandchildren Joe T. (Alisa) True, AL, Dionne (Tim) Peterson, Missoula, MT, Desiree’ (Ben) Saunders, Cheyenne, WY, and Damon Sallee; great grandchildren Seth T. True, Shea Brenna True, Natalie Saunders and Avery Saunders.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sisters, Velma, Carol, Catherine and Helen; and one brother, Dale.
Services are private and under the direction of Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, Bedford.

Ralph A. Blaize – Bedford
Ralph A. Blaize, 91, of Bedford, died at 9:40 pm on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.
Born June 30, 1922 in Hazelton, IN, he was the son of Norman and Florence (Phillips) Blaize. He married Ruth Newton on January 25, 1946 and she preceded him in death on September 22, 1989. He retired from Philco-Ford in 1986 and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WW II. He was a member of Faith Mission in Bedford.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Blaize of Bedford; two brothers, Earl and Carl Blaize both of Princeton, IN; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruth, two brothers, Cornelius and Arthur Baize; two sisters, Fern Lynch and Mary Ethel Pleiss.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm on Thursday, January 23rd in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Leonard Sankey officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion and D.A.V. Chapter 2. Visitation will be from 11 am until the hour of service on Thursday,
January 23rd.

Barbara S. Nicholson – Mitchell
Barbara S. Nicholson, 64, of Mitchell, died at 1 am on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at her residence.
Born August 23, 1949 in Mitchell, she was the daughter of Noble A. and Cora Marie (Wagner) Russell. She married Nelson Nicholson on April 7, 1973 and he preceded her in death on June 30, 2008. She had worked at Garden Villa for twelve years and attended Grace Full Gospel Church. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Mitchell, Eagles Auxiliary and enjoyed playing bingo.
Survivors include four brothers, Mike Russell and wife, Rita of Bedford, David Russell and wife, Luella, Jim Russell and wife, Lydia all of Mitchell, Kenny Russell and wife, Wanda of Orleans; a sister, Shirley Russell Roberts and husband, Keith of Owensburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Peggy Russell and AliceCollins; four brothers, LeRoy, Jeffrey, Donald Joseph and Steve Russell.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 am on Thursday, January 23rd in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Brent O’Neal officiating. Entombment will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, January 22nd at Day & Carter Mortuary.

Wilmer L. “Willie” Stalcup – Bedford
Wilmer L. “Willie” Stalcup, 81, of Bedford, died at 7:14 pm on January 18, 2014 at Stonebridge Health Campus.
Born June 29, 1932 in Greene Co., he was the son of Charles and Zelda (Blaker) Stalcup. He married Treasa Baker on May 10, 1959 and she survives. He retired from NWSC Crane in 1987 and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the Spice Valley Church of Christ and enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball.
Survivors include his wife, Treasa, of Bedford; a son, Greg Stalcup and wife, Ann of Columbia City, IN; a daughter, Michelle Ikerd of Bedford; three grandchildren, Joel Stalcup of Memphis, TN, Samara Perkins and husband, Blake of Greenfield and Brianne Ikerd of Bedford; two brothers, Robert Stalcup and wife, Grace of Ft. Wayne and Eldon Stalcup and wife, Elzenia of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Chuck and Herbert Stalcup.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 am on Wednesday, January 22nd in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Barry Day and Mike Martin officiating. A committal service will follow at 1 pm on Wednesday in Grandview Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, January 21st at Day & Carter Mortuary.

Charline Phillips – Bedford
Charline Phillips, 84, of Bedford, died at 3:15 pm on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Stonebridge Health Campus.
Born October 17, 1929 in Carriere, MS, she was the daughter of John and Lorena (Stewart) Watkins. She married Elmer Phillips on February 9, 1946 and he preceded her in death on March 31, 2004. She retired as an assembly line worker at RCA and was a member of Valley Mission Church. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Sherry East and husband, Charles of Paoli and Cherri Linthicum and husband, Walter of Lebanon, TN.; a grandson, Charles Phillips East; two brothers, Mondel and Norman Watkins both of Mandaville, LA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Marvin Watkins and a sister, Christine Peterson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm on Wednesday, January 22nd in the Elmwood Cahpel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Bro. Max Abel officiating. Burial will follow in Hanson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 pm to 6 pm on Tuesday, January 21st at Day & Carter Mortuary.
