Rev. Claude Chastain Jr – Mitchell
The Rev. Claude Chastain, Jr., 82, of Mitchell, went to be with the Lord at 8:40 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2013, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.
Born January 23, 1931, in Mitchell, he was the son of Claude and Mary Nettie (Fields) Chastain. He married Nancy Elaine Terrell July 9, 1953. He was a Church of the Nazarene minister and pastor at Francisco, Freedom, Kurtz, and 40 years at Shoals, retiring in 2012. Claude was a member of the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene. He retired in 1991 from Carpenter Body Works with 22 years of service. Claude was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving: wife, Nancy E. Chastain, Mitchell; son, Don (Debbie) Chastain, Mitchell; daughters, Joyce (Jim) Coulter, Bedford, Linda (Scott) Pendley, Bloomington; grandchildren, Stacy Bartlett, Joshua Chastain, Jonathan Holt, Katie Chastain, and Eric Holt; 6 great grandchildren; brother, Eugene Curtis Chastain, Yorktown; sister, Rowanna Lupher, Mitchell
His parents; and sisters, Pauline LaVerne Wilkerson, and Marilyn Madge Cauble preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, October 7, at the Mitchell Church of theNazarene with Rev. Matt Moore and Rev. Dwight Dunbar officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 1 p.m. until the service on Monday at the church.
