The following obituaries were received for Saturday


Clarence Edward Kerns – Mitchell
Clarence Edward Kerns, 83, of Mitchell, passed away at 10:50 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2012, at IU Health Bedford Hospital.
Born April 25, 1929, in Martin County, he was the son of Alton and Lillian (Bauer) Kerns. He married Barbara Smith, February 21, 1953. He was employed by B&O Railroad as a Signal Maintainer until his retirement in 1987 after 40 years of service, and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen.
Clarence graduated from Shoals High School in 1947 and was a member of White River Masonic Lodge No. 332 F.&A.M. He was a member of the Mitchell Presbyterian Church and had been an elder and served on many boards at the church. He also served as a Mitchell City Councilman during the years of 1969-1971, and was active in the Little League Program.
Clarence was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the American Legion Post No. 250.
Survivors include wife, Barbara Kerns, Mitchell; daughter, Clarice Cooper and husband, Terry, Orleans; son, Vance Kerns and wife, Angela, Bedford; three grandchildren, Ashley (Luke) Gangloff, Logansport, Jarrett Kerns, Bedford, Alesha Kerns, Bedford; one great grandson, Jackson Cooper Gangloff, Logansport; sisters, Betty Crays, French Lick, Phyllis Wininger, Crawfordsville, Maryrose Risner, Crawfordsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, George Walter Kerns and Ralph Alton Kerns.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 29, in the Mitchell Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dwight Dunbar officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center, and from 1 p.m. until the service on Sunday at the church.
