The following obituaries were received for Friday –


Ruth G. Whitted – Bedford
Ruth G. Whitted, 90, of Lawrence County, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Born March 21, 1922 in Lawrence County she was the daughter of Lawrence and Ona (Speer) Hunter. She was baptized into her Christian faith on May 7, 1936. She studied her Bible daily and made detailed notes on what she learned. She married Clyde Chester Whitted on December 27, 1941 and he preceded her in death on September 10, 1994.
Ruth is survived by two sons, Carl Whitted and Bill and wife Cathie Whitted, all of Lawrence County; two granddaughters, Christina and Natalie Whitted; one brother, Bob and wife Bernadine Hunter and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters Celia Pearl Myers and Esther Almond; one brother Hubert Hunter.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 21st in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Jim Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in the Mundell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 20th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Clarence R. “Dick” Bennett – Indianapolis
Clarence R. “Dick” Bennett, 92, of Indianapolis, passed away at 8:20 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Springmill Meadow in Indianapolis.
Born December 26, 1919 in Lawrence County, he was the son of Frederick C. and Ruby (Freeman) Bennett. He married Irene Sherfick on July 19, 2002. He retired from ITT and was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Army. He enjoyed gardening as a hobby.
Survivors include two daughters, Nedra Jean Sullivan, of Paoli and Patricia Ann Bennett, of Guam; two sons, Michael Richard Bennett, of Indianapolis and John Frederick Bennett, of Spencer; one sister, Rilda Cox and husband, Ken, of Indianapolis; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Irene; three brothers, Fred, Ralph and Alfred Bennett and one sister, Frances Bennett.
Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the White River Baptist Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post 33 American Legion. Burial will follow. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Danny Thomas Ryan – Heltonville

Danny Thomas Ryan, 59, of Heltonville, passed away at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at his home.
Born June 27, 1953 in Lawrence County, he was the son of Thomas Jr. and Opal Mae “Polly” (Morrison) Ryan. He married Jami Owens on June 30, 1992 and she survives.
Survivors include his wife Jami, of Heltonville; two sons, Clinto Ryan and Jennifer Coulter and Christopher Ryan and Isha Wright, both of Bedford; two daughters, Nicole Ryan, of Bedford and Corrie Pope and her husband Barry, of Bartow, Florida; two grandchildren, Olivia and Landon Pope, Mikayla Ryan; father, Thomas Jr. Ryan; two sisters, Karen James, of Mitchell and Janice Lewis, of Bedford; two brothers, Timothy Ryan, of New Hampshire, Larry Ryan, of Shoals and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, two sisters, Rebecca Sears and Tammy Brock.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
