Donald D. Johnson – Shoals
Donald C. Johnson, 78, died Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 3:40 a.m. at the Loogootee Nursing Center.
Donald was born December 31, 1932 in Martin County, Indiana to Harley and Ellen (Tabor) Cox and after the death of his mother he was adopted by Charles and Laura (Gibbs) Johnson.
Donald married Bonita “Bonnie” Kerns on July 15, 1952, in French Lick, Indiana.
Donald retired from NAD Crane and then was self-employed as a carpenter. He graduated from Shoals High School and is a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, Bonnie, of Shoals; daughter Donna Sue Johnson, of Shoals; Son Rick and his wife Inger Johnson of Shoals; grandsons Jeremiah and Scott Johnson, both of Shoals; sister Gladys Hall, of French Lick; brother Warren Cox, of Vincenness; brother-in-law, Harvey Abel, of Shoals.
He is preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Dorothy Abel, Nancy Cox, Lorraine Gammon, Maurice Tedrow and Ada Buffington.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 30, 2011 at Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Shoals American Legion Post #61 will accord military graveside rites.
