Amzel J. Vanzant – Mitchell
Amzel J. Vanzant of Mitchell passed away on Saturday, April 16th at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 103. Born in 1907 in Crawford County to James and Luella Smith, was married to Jack Vanzant and taught at Crawford County Schools. She is survived by one son Von Leon Vanzant Jr.; one daughter, Jane Haines; as well as several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and two sisters, Lorraine Goldsmith and Crystal Conrad. Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM on Friday, April 22nd in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with burial to follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00PM until 8:00PM on Thursday and from 9:30AM until the hour of service on Friday at the funeral home.
Catherine Ratliff – Mitchell
Catherine Ratliff of Mitchell passed away on Monday, April 18th at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital at the age of 86. Born in 1924 in Mitchell to Fred and Belva Hopkins, she had been married to Robert Ratliff since 1995, was a Unit Secretary at Bloomington Hospital and was retired from Goody’s Family Clothing. She is survived by two daughters, Carol Abbott and Ginny Eggers; as well as several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Lewis Hopkins and one sister, Bernice Pruett. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, April 21st at Ferguson – Lee Funeral Home with burial to follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00PM until 7:00PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
