Maxine Curry – Bedford
Maxine Curry, former resident of Owensburg and Indianapolis and currently in Bedford passed away on Sunday, March 20th at Stonebridge Health Campus at the age of 98. Born in 1913 in Monroe County to Craig and Thursa Sare, she had been married to Howard Curry since 1940, was a member of the Owensburg Baptist Church, was a 1931 graduate of Bloomington High School, worked as a secretary for J.M. Hoadley Stone Co., Real Silk Hosiary Co. and was retired from Keystone Lighting in Castleton. She is survived by one daughter, Janet Atkins and her husband David; one brother, Jack Sare and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and four brothers, Walter, Rufus, Richard and Donald Sare. Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, March 25th in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with burial to follow in South Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00PM until 8:00PM on Thursday, March 24th and from noon until the hour of service on Friday at the funeral home.
Avis New – Oolitic
Avis New of Oolitic passed away on Monday, March 21st at Stonebridge Health Campus at the age of 75. Born in 1935 in Oolitic to Carl and Ann May Fowler, she had been married to Donald New since 1954, was retired from NWSC Crane and was a member of the Oolitic Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by one son, Tim New and his wife, Patty; one daughter, Lisa Sanders and her husband Jerry; one daughter-in-law, Lisa New; as well as several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and one son, Jim New. Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on Thursday, March 24th in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with burial to follow in Hilltop Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00PM until 8:00PM on Wednesday, March 23rd at the funeral home.
