CSM Retired Raymond E. Stearns – Bedford
CSM Retired Raymond E. Stearns of Bedford passed away on Tuesday, February 8th at his residence at the age of 77. Born in 1933 in Lawrence County to Jaison and Georgia Stearns, he had been married to Alice Jenkins since 1953, enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and retired in 1979 as a Command Sergeant Major, later worked for the Colorado Department of Corrections in 1997, attended Mitchell Schools and the Salvation Army Church. He was also a member of the D.A.V., American Legion and V.F.W. He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Terri Stearns, Tammy Stearns and Tracy Louise Page; one brother, Robert Stearns; four sisters, Shirley Cole, Norma Jean Foster, Delores Hopper and her husband Wendell and Helen Shope; as well as several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Della Lifford; four brothers, Cecil Stearns, Roger Davis, Ronald Stearns and Frank Stearns. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Sunday, February 13th in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with burial to follow in Mitchell Cemetery with military rites accorded graveside by members of the Cecil Martin Post #250 American Legion. Visitation will be from 3:00PM until 8:00PM on Saturday, February 12th at Day & Carter Mortuary.
Jane Beretta Wilcox – Mitchell
Jane Beretta Wilcox of Mitchell passed away on Tuesday, February 8th at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital at the age of 85. Born in 1925 in Bedford to Giulia Beretta and Ida Beretta, she had been married to George Wilcox since 1948, was a homemaker, was a graduate of Bedford High School in the class of 1944, was a member of the Tunnelton United Methodist Church, was President of the United Methodist Women, was District Officer and Women’s Leader of Lawrence County Farm Bureau, Inc. and was Presidents of the Lawrence County Homemaker’s Club. She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Sandra Chastain, Rhea Smith and Susie Embree; as well as several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Julius, Bruno, Joe, Lons, Fred and Charles Beretta and one sister, Ramone Viers. Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, February 12th at Ferguson – Lee Funeral Home with burial to follow in Talbott Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00PM until 8:00PM on Friday, February 11th at Ferguson – Lee Funeral Home.
Wayne Remington – Mitchell
Wayne Remington of Mitchell passed away on Tuesday, February 8th at Indiana University Health at the age of 88. Born in 1923 in Massena, New York to Glenn and Nina Remington, he had been married to Louise Mosher since 1947, was retired from Alcoa Aluminum Company, was a member of the Ham Radio Club, attended Spice Valley Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife; children, Sherry Sochia and her husband Gary, Gary Remington and his wife Betsy, Lois DeCarr and her husband Ceamer; one sister, Mardith Case as well as several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Glenwood Remington and sisters, Ardis Nelson, Gladys Snickles and Irma Wood. Memorial services will be held at 6:00PM on Friday, February 11th at the First Church of God in Mitchell.
