Dr. Gordon Hardman, 73, Mitchell

Dr. Gordon Thomas Hardman of Mitchell passed away Friday evening, January 29th at Dunn Memorial Hospital at the age of 73.


Born in 1936 in Mitchell to parents Leo Thomas and Mary Louise (Wells) Hardmen, he had been married to Jeannette Lee Terrell since 1956.
Tom was a graduate of Mitchell High School in the class of 1954, was a graduate of Indiana State University, was a teacher at Charlestown for one year and at Burris School until becoming the principal for more than 30 years.
Following his retirement, he had been employed at JayC Food Store.
Gordon coached football, Biddy Basketball, Little League and coordinated the Punt-Pass-And-Kick competition for Ford Motor Company.
He was a past master of the Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F & AM, former member of the Mitchell Rotary Club and Mitchell City Council.
Thomas was also a member of the Jacob Finger United Methodist Church and had served as Sunday School Superintendent.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannette Hardman; sons, Michael Thomas Hardman, Mark Allen Hardmen and his wife Stephanie; Mathew Aaron Hardman and his wife Cheryl; one daughter, Cathy Bullington and her husband Mark as well as several grandhildren; siblings, John Phillip Hardman and his wife Helen, Celeste Sherwood and her husband Mike and Christopher Hardman and his wife Theresa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 2nd at 11:00AM in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with burial to follow in Mitchell Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:00PM until 8:00PM on Monday and from 10:00AM until the hour of service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
A memorial service will also be held at the Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F & AM at 7:30PM on Monday at the funeral home.
