Dean C. Smith of Mitchell passed away Wednesday afternoon, December 30th at the age of 62, following a battle with cancer.
Born in 1947 in Lawrence County to parents Roy C. and Helen M. (Schmidt) Smith, he had been married to Debbie (Sullivan) Houchin since 1988.
Dean was employed in the steel industry and was a founding member of the Castaway Band, was a member and past master of the Bedford Masonic Lodge No. 14, La-Or-Ma Shrine Club, Murat Shrine Club and was an avid bowler.
He is survived by his wife; children, Mindi (Smith) Hodson, Mark C. Smith, Jennifer M. (Houchin) Gerkin and Jason A. Houchin; as well as seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 2nd at 10:30AM in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with burial to follow in Mitchell Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2:00PM until 7:00PM on Friday, January 1st and from 9:00AM until the hour of service on Saturday at Chastain Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be conducted by Bedford Masonic Lodge No. 14 at 6:30PM Friday at the funeral home.
