Virginia Lois White of Mitchell formerly of Orleans and known to friends and family as “Mammy” passed away Sunday evening at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 79.
Born in 1930 in Lawrence County to parents Bernard Burton and Dessie (Owen) Ray, she had been married to Ollan Arthur White since 1976.
She was employed at Mitchell Manor, Hoosier Uplands and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughter, Nola Colleen Jones; daughter-in-law, Maxine Ashley; stepchildren, Tony White, Rocky White, Ollan, Andre White; sisters, Flo George, Luella Russell; brother, Harry Bill Burton; grandchildren, William Jones and Tiffany Jones, great-grandson Aaron Michael McClain as well as several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Curt Ray; husband; son, Wesley Ryan Jones; grandchildren, Jorie Simmons, Shane Ryan Jones, Ollan Wesley Jones; two great-grandchildren; sister, Marlene Bland.
Services will be held on Thursday from 10:00AM in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with burial to follow in Connerley Switch Cemetery.
Visitation is Wednesday from 5:00PM until 8:00PM, and Thursday from 9:00AM until the hour of service at Chastian Funeral Hom
