Lois (Hatfield) Chase, 94, Chase

Lois (Hatfield) Chase of Bedford passed away Thursday at her son’s residence at the age of 94.


Born in 1915 in Needmore to parents Joel and Laura (Fields) Hatfield, Lois was married to Layne Sowder until his death in 1984, and later husband Paul Chase until his death in 2002.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Bedford, and was a volunteer Pink Lady with Dunn Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by one son, Mike Sowder and his wife Yvonne “Dolly” Sowder; one step-son, Frank Chase and his wife Eva; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Sowder; one step-daughter-in-law, Annette Chase; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several step-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; one son, Don Sowder; one sister, Leonna Clampitt; four brothers, Vestal, Vaughn, John, and Harland Hatfield; as well as one step-son, Roger Chase.
Services will be held Monday at 10:00 AM from the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with burial to follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
Visitation is Sunday from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Day & Carter Mortuary.
