Sallie Hackett, 84, Bedford

SALLIE HACKETT OF BEDFORD, PASSED AWAY THURSDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 25, 2008 AT GARDEN VILLA IN BEDFORD AT THE AGE OF 84.


Born in 1924 in Mississippi to parents Willie and Oralee Sledge, Sallie confessed to christ at an early age in Dells, Arkansas under leadership of Rev. James Pastor at the New Gailee Baptist Church.
She became a member of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Joseph Sylvester and was a faithful member of the Floral Club.
She had worked as a housekeeper at Sherman Hotel, until she began working at Duo Fast in Franklin Park, IL from 1960 until retirement in 1987.
She and her husband relocated to Bedford, IN in 1993, when he became ill. She joined the second Baptist Missionary Baptist Church and committed her service to the Usher Board and Pastor’s Aid and Women’s Ministry Auxiliary.
She was known as the mother and grandmother of the church.
Sallie had worked at Chuck’s Soul Food in Bedford until she became ill.
She is survived by two children, Bertha and Roy, fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Phillip, one brother, Russell, a son Jimmie, a grandson Jimmie, Jr., and two son in-laws, brother and sister in-laws.
Service will be held Monday, December 29 from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary at 11:00am, with burial to follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is Sunday, December 28 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and from 11:00am until the service on Monday, December 29.
