Mary M. Gerkin of Bedford passed away yesterday at Stonebridge Health Campus at the age of 96.
Born in 1912 in Martin County to George and Elsie Harp, Mary was a homemaker, Pink Lady Volunteer at Dunn Memorial Hospital, and member of the Southland Church of Christ, Royal Neighbors and Brightwood Homemakers Club and was a volunteer with the Red Cross.
She is survived by her daughters Elsie and Barbara, 12 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 33 great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Lester, sister Violet, and brothers Ward, Lloyd, Floyd, Marion, Rolland and Paul.
Services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00am at the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with burial to follow at Beech Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be held tomorrow from 4:00 until 8:00pm at Day & Carter.
