Fredrick Yates Jr. of Bedford, known to friends and family as “Sarge,” passed away Sunday afternoon at Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford at the age of 84.
Born in 1924 in Louisville to Fredrick and Elizbeth Yates, Sarge was a 23-year Army veteran, retiree of Brunner Engineering and president of UAW Local 2158, member of the VFW, American Legion Gillen Post 33, Kentucky Colonels, and served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife Erika, daughter Fritzi, sister Helen, brother Harlan, and 5 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Diana and sister violet.
Services will be held Thursday evening at 7:00pm at Cresthaven Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Indiana Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Madison.
Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00pm tomorrow at Cresthaven.
