Gerald Sowder of Bedford passed away Thursday afternoon at Dunn Memorial Hospital at the age of 97.
Born in 1911 in Lawrence County to Birtle and Leta Sowder, Gerald was a retired electric furnace operator for General Motors, electrician, and member of Donica Memorial Church of God.
He is survived by his sons Harold and Farrell, daughters Barbara, Maxine, Irene and Carolyn, sisters Mildred and Freadona, 20 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 38 great great grandchildren, and 2 great great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Thelma, brothers Sylvester and Roy, sister Margaret and one grandson.
Services will be held Monday morning at 10:30am at the Donica Memorial Church of God with burial to follow at Hanson Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00am Sunday at Day & Carter Mortuary and again from 9:30am until time of service at the church.
